Exploring Google Gemini

Image generated by Gemini

This week, I continued exploring Google Gemini and used it to practice designing a cover for our class eBook project. It was a very interesting experience using AI for visual design. I started with a simple prompt asking for an eBook cover about digital tools used in learning and education, but the result was very basic and did not fully match what I expected.

My Experience with this tool

Capitalizing on last week's experience with AI prompting, I knew that the quality of the image Gemini can produce depends heavily on how detailed and clear the prompt is. I added more details, such as the theme of the eBook, names of the tools included and the purpose of this eBook, the output was very different and of a better quality.

One thing I appreciated about Gemini is how accessible and easy it is to use. This tool does not require design experience, and it allows you to quickly generate ideas that you can further refine. It felt like collaborating with a creative assistant rather than using an AI tool.

However, I also noticed that sometimes the output can be inconsistent. Even with a good prompt, the results may vary. This means you may need to generate multiple versions before finding one that works for you and meets your expectations.

Tips and Suggestions for Using Gemini

If you are planning to use Gemini for image generation, here are a few tips based on my experience:

- Be very specific in your prompt and include as many details as possible to ensure a good output is produced.

- Try to visualize the image before writing the prompt and describe the image that you have in mind.

- Your first result will not always be the best. So, you will need to refine your prompt and generate multiple versions.

How This Tool Can Be Used

Gemini can be very useful in both academic and professional contexts. Students can use it in creating designs for school projects and presentations. Professionals can use it in designing training materials, creating visuals for communication campaigns and enhancing presentations and reports. We can also use Gemini to create designs for personal projects, social media content and even for fun!
