Learn as You Play: My Experience with Kahoot!
This week, I had so much fun learning about Kahoot, a tool I had heard about before but never actually used. My learning experience with Kahoot was so easy and genuinely fun.
What Is Kahoot and How Does it Supports Learning?
Kahoot is an interactive learning platform that allows users to create quizzes, polls, and games that participants can join in real time using their devices. It can be used in classrooms, training sessions, and workshops to increase engagement and participation.
What makes Kahoot effective is its ability to turn learning into a game-like experience, which grabs the learners' attention and makes the learning process more fun. Instead of passively receiving information, learners actively participate by answering questions, competing, and receiving immediate feedback. This helps improve attention, motivation, and knowledge retention, because the learners are actively learning and interacting.
My Experience Learning the Tool
My experience learning Kahoot was very positive. The chapter in our class eBook provided clear, step-by-step instructions that made it easy for me to follow along and create my first quiz. The labeled screenshots were extremely helpful, as they guided me through each stage of the process, starting from creating an account to designing questions and launching my quiz. I was able to quickly understand how the platform works and start experimenting with different question types. The interface is user-friendly, and the process felt simple even as a first-time user.
What I enjoyed most was how engaging the tool is. Creating a quiz did not feel like a technical task that requires a lot of knowledge. It felt more like designing an interactive activity. This made the learning process enjoyable and motivating.
Example of Use
As part of my exploration, I created a simple quiz to test basic knowledge on a topic. For my first experience I used the information source for my quiz to be ISU website. The tool was able to create more than 20 questions: true or false, multiple choice and polls. The experience helped me see how Kahoot can be used in real-life settings, such as:
- Icebreakers in training sessions
- Knowledge checks during or after a lesson
- Review activities before exams or assessments
Even a simple quiz can create energy and interaction in a learning environment.
I also used NotebookLM to create a video and an infographic about the Kahoot chapter of the eBook:
Why This Tool Matters
Kahoot demonstrates how technology can transform learning from a passive experience into an active and engaging one. It supports different learning styles and encourages participation from all learners, including those who may be less comfortable speaking up.
The combination of a well-designed tool and a clear instructional chapter made the process smooth and effective. I would definitely consider using Kahoot in future training or learning environments to increase engagement and make learning more dynamic.
